Spring into Half Term with these family friendly day trips
20 February 2018Make the most of the spring half term with these fun family activities in Wales, with a little help from us to plan your journeys there.
With the lighter evenings starting to draw in, and although the chilly weather is still keeping us from packing our coats and scarfs away, this half term is a great chance to unwind and embrace the first signs of spring! Wales is overflowing with exciting attractions and dreamy destinations for you to explore with your loved ones and make some fond family memories along the way.
Take a look below at some ideas for you to try, and explore the great outdoors of Wales!
Walk the Wales Coast Path
If the weather is on our side, exploring some of Wales’ finest walking routes can be a cheap and healthy way of running off some of the kids’ energy. The Wales Coast Path, first opened in 2012, is the world’s first uninterrupted route along a national coast. Take in the stunning scenery of the beaches, estuaries and hills; with 870 miles of coastal path to explore, this will be sure to keep you busy! Easily accessible by public transport, including the Llŷn coastal bus and Cardi Bach bus service, you can find all the available routes for your trip on our journey planner here.
Soar along the Brecon Mountain Railway
If steam engines are more up your track, the Brecon Mountain Railway will glide you through the breath-taking views between Pant and Torpantau, making it a fun day to remember. Public service buses operate from Merthyr Tydfil town centre bus station to Pant, whilst Arriva Trains Wales services operate from Cardiff to Merthyr Tydfil.
Enter the dragons’ den at Caerphilly Castle
Embrace your inner Daenerys Targaryen and say hello to the fire-breathing family of Cadw dragons, at their home in the scenic Caerphilly Castle. Wales plays host to a variety of magnificent and historic castles; ideal for a family day out, Cadw’s family of dragons will bring that little extra magic to your visit. You can plan your bus or train journeys directly to Caerphilly Castle over on our journey planner here.
Shelter from the rain?
Unfortunately, we can’t always predict the weather. But Zip World’s Bounce Below provides the perfect indoor playground for thrill seekers of all ages. A great hidden gem located in Blaenau Ffestiniog, there are lots of public transport options available to take you to this one of a kind adventure park!
