Monday 14th January until Friday 18th January

Amended overnight Transport for Wales services from Monday 14 to Friday 18 January.

Engineering work is taking place between Severn Tunnel Junction and Gloucester, and also between Cardiff Central and Penarth / Barry Island / Bridgend overnight, from Monday evening until Friday morning.

Monday to Thursday:

  • The 21:52 Aberdare to Penarth service will terminate at Cardiff Central. A replacement bus will run between Cardiff Central and Penarth.
  • The 22:15 Maesteg to Gloucester service will terminate at Newport. A replacement bus will run between Newport and Gloucester.
  • The 23:14 Radyr to Barry Island service will terminate at Cardiff Central. A replacement bus will run between Cardiff Central and Barry Island.
  • The 23:18 Merthyr Tydfil to Bridgend service will terminate at Cardiff Central. A replacement bus will run between Cardiff Central and Bridgend.
  • The 23:26 Penarth to Cardiff Central service will be replaced by a bus throughout.

Tuesday to Friday:

  • The 05:15 Barry Island to Caerphilly service will start from Cardiff Central at 05:46. A replacement bus will run from Barry Island earlier at 04:51 and run to Cardiff Central.

 

 

 

Saturday 19th January and Sunday 20th January

  • Buses replace trains between Whitland and Milford Haven on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 January
  • Engineering work is taking place between Clarbeston Road and Milford Haven, closing all lines.
  • Buses will replace trains between Whitland and Milford Haven all day on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 January.

 

 

 

Saturday 19th January and Sunday 20th January

Amended service between Newport and Cardiff Central on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 January

Engineering work is taking place between Newport and Cardiff Central, closing various lines.

Great Western Railway

On Saturday night, the 19:23 Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff Central service, and the 22:00 London Paddington to Cardiff Central service, will terminate at Newport. Other rail services are available between Newport and Cardiff Central.

On Sunday, trains between Brighton / Portsmouth Harbour and Cardiff Central will be replaced by buses between Newport and Cardiff Central. The bus journey will take approximately 40 minutes. After 22:30, some buses will be extended to Swansea.

On Sunday, long distance High Speed Trains between London Paddington and Swansea will be replaced by buses between Newport and Bridgend. Please allow for an extended journey time of up to 60 minutes.

Transport for Wales (Sunday only)

Up to 12:40:

  • Merthyr Tydfil / Treherbert / Aberdare services will be replaced by road transport throughout
  • Rhymney / Ystrad Mynach services will run to / from Cardiff Bay
  • Barry Island / Bridgend services will run to / from Ninian Park, with a replacement bus service running between Cogan and Cardiff Central
  • West Wales services will run to / from Bridgend with a bus service running between Cardiff Central to Bridgend calling at stations via Pontyclun

From 12:40:

  • All Valley Line services will operate as normal
  • Ebbw Vale services will run between Ebbw Vale and Newport with a bus connection to / from Cardiff Central at Pye Corner
  • Cardiff Central to Gloucester / Cheltenham Spa services will run to / from Newport
  • North and West services (to / from stations towards Manchester, Crewe and Holyhead) will run to / from Newport
  • West Wales services will run to / from Cardiff Central (platform 6).

 

 

 

Monday 21st January until Friday 25th January

  • Buses replace trains from 22:45 to 06:00 between Llanelli and Swansea from Monday 21 to Friday 25 January.
  • Engineering work is taking place between Llanelli and Swansea, closing some lines overnight.
  • Buses will operate between Llanelli and Swansea between 22:45 and 06:00 each night, starting on Monday evening and finishing on Friday morning. 

 

  • Buses replace late night trains between Crewe and Chester from Monday 21 January to Friday 25 January
  • Engineering works are taking place between Crewe and Chester, closing all lines between 23:30 and 05:30 each night.

 

  • Buses replace late night trains between Radyr and Merthyr Tydfil from Monday 21 to Friday 25 January
  • Engineering work is taking place between Radyr and Merthyr Tydfil, closing all lines overnight from 23:30 to 05:15, starting on Monday evening and finishing on Friday morning.
  • All trains will terminate / start from Radyr. Buses will operate between Radyr and Merthyr Tydfil.

 

 

Sunday 27th January

  • Buses replace trains between Cardiff Central and Rhymney on Sunday 27 January
  • Engineering work is taking place between Cardiff Central and Rhymney, closing all lines.
  • Buses will replace trains between Cardiff Central and Rhymney.

 

Amended service between Cardiff Central and Bridgend on Sunday 27 January

  • Engineering work is taking place between Cardiff Central and Bridgend, closing some lines.
  • Great Western Railway services between London Paddington and Swansea / Carmarthen will be diverted via an alternative route between Cardiff and Bridgend, extending journey times slightly.
  • It is not yet known how Transport for Wales services are affected by this engineering work.

 

 

 

Monday 28th until Thursday 31st January

Amended evening Transport for Wales services between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly from Monday 28 to Thursday 31 January.

Engineering work is taking place between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly, closing some lines overnight.

As a result, the following trains will be amended:

Monday to Thursday:

  • The 20:17 Cardiff Central to Manchester Piccadilly service will terminate at Crewe. A replacement bus will run between Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly.
  • The 22:36 Manchester Piccadilly to Shrewsbury service will be diverted to run via Stoke. A replacement bus will run between Stockport and Crewe.
